Built in the mid-19ᵉ century by Monsieur Plinguet, the château was initially a holiday home and underwent several changes of ownership.
For some years, the château was nicknamed ‘the chicken château’ after large chicken coops were installed on the estate at Saint-Aignan de Grand-Lieu near Nantes.

The estate was very closely involved in the Second World War, when it was occupied by the Germans, who even repainted it camouflage green.
After the Liberation, extensive work was undertaken to restore the château to its original colours and superb appearance.
Union Française de Centres de Vacances
In 1967, the château was transferred to the Comité Départemental de l’U.F.C.V. – Union Française de Centres de Vacances – which became the owner.
It was named the Castle de la Plinguetière in tribute to its history.
A player in social tourism
Castle de la Plinguetière is now managed by an independent association, which mainly welcomes groups and offers accommodation, catering and meeting rooms to a varied clientele throughout the year :
